Small Business License!

Obtaining a small business license is the next step after you have registered your company's name and are ready to get started.

Every business large or small is required to have a local business license. The purpose of a small business license is to authorize your company to do business in a particular city or county.

Depending on the type of small business you will be operating, you may need a state and or federal license as well.

Regulations vary from state to state, so it's very important to find out what licenses you are required to have prior to starting a home business.

To find out what your state requirements are, you can go to US Small Business Administration and enter the state you are planning to operate your business in.

If you plan to work outside of you local city or county, even if it’s temporary, you will more than likely have to also apply for a business license for the city or county you plan to be working in. Be sure and find out if you need a separate business license before you start doing business in other cities. Not complying with regulations can lead to fines and put your business at risk.

Local business licenses are typically issued at the local City Hall. If your business is not within the city limits, then your business license will be issued by the County where you business address is listed.

Getting a local business license should not be a major task once you know the particular licensing requirements for your small business. After you know what licenses you are required to have you can file for your business license online.

Some Cities and Counties require you to obtain a business license, even if you operate a home-based business, so be sure and obtain the required business licenses you may need before you announce you are Open for Business.
